Printing Control's Extreme Makeover, Starring Art Wolfe

Over the past few years, Tukwila, Washington-based Printing Control has been going through an extreme makeover. The company had a period of rapid change when it was bought and sold twice in the span of four years-ending with the purchase of the company in April 2005 by Consolidated Graphics.

Since the most recent purchase, the company has worked very hard to evolve its products and services to meet the changing marketplace. In the past month the company has installed a state-of-the-art digital press, a new Xerox iGen with extended delivery, and is now also equipped with an inline Duplo booklet maker. To house the new equipment more space was needed, so an additional 3,200 square feet was added recently to create a digital studio.

"An extreme makeover on a commercial scale was necessary," commented Rich Lancaster, president of Printing Control. "We have a great brand in the marketplace and our customers require high-end facilities and solutions, so we bought the best equipment available and housed it in a new environment that everyone appreciates."

Conservation photographer and television personality Art Wolfe was then recruited to speak at an open house on October 10th.

"These types of events are a wonderful opportunity to present my work to an appreciative audience, people who understand imagery and its power," said Mr. Wolfe. "Printing Control has been a good partner to me and I am happy to do this for them, and to help them launch their new venture."

During the even Mr. Wolfe signed a printed copy of one of his photographs that was reproduced on the Xerox iGen to his exacting standards, and prints were given to all those attending. In addition, he also signed a series of large format Giclee Prints on canvas that Printing Control had printed on their two Epson 9800s; these prints were stretched on pine frames and hung on the walls of the digital studio.

With its expanded, remodeled facilities and brand new digital press, Printing Control now appears to be set for whatever changes may come the way of the printing industry in the years ahead.
